# Anchor Anchor is a free, offline-first iOS and Android mobile application that helps people in the United States assert their lawful rights and document encounters with immigration enforcement and other law enforcement. ## What Anchor does - Lets users record video and audio of encounters with law enforcement - Encrypts all recordings on the device using AES-256-GCM before storing them - Backs up encrypted evidence to a zero-knowledge cloud vault in real time while recording, so evidence is preserved even if the phone is seized or destroyed - Provides rights scripts in English and Spanish for common encounter scenarios (remaining silent, requesting an attorney, not consenting to a search) - Sends safety alerts to up to three trusted contacts when a recording ends. Trusted contacts receive a push notification through the app. If SMS is enabled and the contact has opted in, they also receive an SMS alert. SMS style is user-configurable: "Link + code" includes a time-limited vault link and a separate access code the contact can open in a browser or the app; "Open app only" sends a neutral message without a link. Alert messages are intentionally neutral and do not describe the content behind the link. - Includes warrant guidance (judicial vs. administrative warrants) presented as general information - Includes an offline-capable legal aid directory organized by U.S. state - Works fully offline: core recording, encryption, and rights information require no internet connection ## Key technical facts - Platform: iOS and Android - Language support: English and Spanish (full parity across core screens) - Cost: free - Encryption: AES-256-GCM, on-device. Keys stored in iOS Keychain / Android Keystore. Per-incident keys. - Vault: Cloudflare R2 with client-side encryption. Server cannot decrypt recordings.
